Welcome to AnceStory NI. I am thrilled to announce the launch of my professional genealogy service!
Margaret Atwood wrote, “In the end, we’ll all become stories.” It won’t take you much investigation to discover that I am quite fond of this particular quotation – I have plastered it on every page of my website. I find the idea that we’ll all live on through the medium of storytelling to be not only fascinating, but also inspiring. So, I’ve decided to make it my mission to deliver those stories to you.
I believe that stories can be an incredibly powerful tool. When we hear another person’s story, whether they are our best friend or our greatest enemy, we are able to empathise with them. For a moment, we might even understand them.
That’s what this business is all about for me. It is the beginning of my life as a storyteller. I want to use my professional skills as an anthropologist, historian, writer, and researcher to tell one of the most personal stories of all – your family history. I want to bring that story to life for you so that you can really know and understand your own background.
I will use this blog for a variety of purposes. The main one will be to chronicle the storytelling process. As I collect information for clients and share their ancestry with them, I will share funny, interesting, and relatable stories about the process. Where possible, I will feature client stories. Additionally, I will post blogs to assist amateur genealogists who are conducting their own research – the best ways to utilise online databases, how to break down brick walls, and when to seek out professional help. Please do leave feedback in the comments if you'd like to see something else covered.
Stay tuned. I hope and believe this is the beginning of an incredible career as a storyteller. I look forward to getting to know you – my clients – through the process!
